The first basketball club in Novo Mesto was founded in 1948 but had to wait until the Slovenian indipendency in 1991 to start its raise toward the top clubs in the region. Ever since member of the Slovenian first-division Krka made the big breakthrough in 2000 when its senior team defeated historical rival Union Olimpija in the Slovenian playoff finals to win the first national title. Because of that Krka received the invitation from the 2000/2001 Suproleague and a year later from Euroleague. That period is written with golden latters in the club's history since Novo mesto became crazy for basketball with the domestic sport's hall being always full to the last corner. But consequences followed after a rapid climb atop. Because of ambitious plans the club broke down two years later when the team fell out of the regional league and its budget was drastically reduced. This was a sign for the general sponsor as for the club's management to start a new story with a more stable and balanced plans, which eventually led to the European elite. In 2008/2009 the clubstarted to climb back toward the international scene and returned to the NLB League but the final breakthrough came in 2010, when the senior team won the Slovenian championship again, qalified for the NLB League and made some significant achievements so in the regional league as in Eurochallenge.
